For 30 years…3 decades …three DESCades, Downtown Ecumenical Services Council (DESC) has been helping those in need with groceries, emergency financial assistance and clothing.

 

As we celebrate this 30-year landmark, one of our goals is to raise funds for a major Birthday Gift of over $100,000 for DESC. This gift will go directly to addressing the growing needs of families and individuals who are facing hunger and financial crisis throughout Jacksonville.

The current economic crisis has swelled the ranks of those needing help from DESC. The most recent US Census revealed that nearly 17% of the population of our city now lives below the poverty level – that's 140,000 of your neighbors who are hungry and in real need of help.

 

Our DESCades event on April 19, 2012, will not only raise these critical funds, but will also be a celebration of the people who have been helped by DESC and the many volunteers who have made DESC a vital part of Jacksonville's "Safety Net" for those facing homelessness and poverty.
